Yōkai Parade: Supernatural Monsters from Japan at Oglethorpe University Museum of Art explores the rich visual culture of yōkai, the spirits, monsters, and supernatural beings that have appeared in Japanese folklore for centuries. The exhibition traces how these figures have been imagined, pictured, and reinterpreted over time.

Moving between traditional and more contemporary representations, the show highlights the ways yōkai reflect cultural beliefs, social anxieties, and storytelling traditions. These creatures often exist at the boundary between fear and humor, the visible and the invisible.

By bringing these works together in a museum setting, Yōkai Parade invites viewers to consider how myth, imagination, and visual culture continue to shape one another.
